Aerial Assist: First Impressions

Over the weekend, I got my first chance to see Aerial Assist in person – I drove down to Terre Haute, IN to watch the final day of the Crossroads Regional.

This game is impressive.  It’s very exciting in person; in a way that doesn’t transmit through webcast.  There is so much strategy to this game – the most intense strategy since Lunacy.  This game to me seems like basketball on carpet.  It’s all about head fakes, setting screens & picks, establishing a full-court press, finding that perfect bounce or outlet pass.  My colleague (and CyberCard alum) Carlee commented that to her, the game resembled volleyball.  The three assists were like bump-set-spike, and playing positions is key.

Aerial Assist is turning into a finesse game – which I think the GDC had in mind – and it will play well with our robot design and strategy come Weeks 4 & 5 when we play at Boilermaker and Queen City.
